Ahead of the Italian Song Festival, San Remo, I always get interviewed by some reporter looking for some tips for their readers. This time it is the turn of Oggi, which presents 5 tips to keep your voice from aging.

Taking care of the voice is not just for singers. Vocal cords suffer from the wear and tear of time, cold, dry environments and irritating foods. To keep them in shape, follow 5 tips inspired by the routines of artists and vocal coaches.

No to icy or hot drinks. Let’s dispel the myth of hot milk with honey: milk increases mucus production and heat dilates the tissues of the vocal cords. Cold, on the other hand, makes them contract too much. Either way, the voice suffers. Hydrating the vocal cords is essential, explains vocal coach Milena Origgi: “Drinking water goes down the esophagus and does not touch the vocal cords, which are in the larynx. But at least two liters of water a day hydrates them from the inside.” 

Little “singers’ herb.” Sore throat lozenges made from erismus, the so-called “singers’ herb,” act as an anesthetic: reducing pain, they give the perception of speaking or singing better, but they lead to straining the voice. No alcohol (and no smoking). Alcohol dehydrates the vocal cords, affects their tone and, by producing a brief vasodilation, gives the il- lusion of having a warm apparatus. If one “warms” the voice by drinking, after a few minutes of speaking or singing there will already be a need to clear the voice.

A news agency went out today about my work and the international success of the Inborn Voice method, especially in the United States, chosen by all CEOs and managers of major corporations.

The worldwide success of Milena Origgi, founder of the Inborn voice

The voice goes around the world. An extremely powerful tool that breaks down boundaries and overcomes limits: Milena Origgi (in the photo), the vocal coach of managers, is convinced of this and has become a reference point with enormous success with courses organized by Bocconi Alumni. They consider her method a communication soft skill.

When the world was not yet so overwhelmed by the power of the voice, the busty woman with the celestial voice but powerful notes, invented her own method, the Inborn voice. Origgi was a visionary because few, very few were so attentive to this power of which we all suffer even involuntarily the charm. And now that the number of people literally crazy about podcasts is growing and there is even a social network – Clubhouse – that is based on the sound and words we articulate, the power of the voice takes on an even more important role. It’s clear that she’s got it right, this professional who first drove the subjects of Her Majesty the Queen of England so crazy that she opened a studio in London, then flew to the United States, where she now lives, in Boston, and who, before the pandemic physically stopped her, traveled the world spreading the power of the voice.

“Because the voice doesn’t betray, it doesn’t lie. It has a power that goes beyond the rational”. Mylena vocal coach – this is her stage name – who has become a mentor to hundreds of students everywhere, is truly convinced of this. After all, just think how much we use our voices now: to the delight of those who send 10-minute messages to Tommaso Paradiso in Felicità XXX – or the legions of fans of the hitech vocal assistants Alexa and Siri.

The Vocal coach’s message – when the facts are in, she’s right – is that you can get anywhere with your voice, just don’t put limits on it. And the next time you think of the American dream or a world tour, of the beauty of conveying emotions, think of the voice of this woman who believed in herself and in her gift. For all those who are not content and are able to speak, listen and hear themselves.

There are different types of green cards to immigrate into the United States. The one issued for “extraordinary ability” is among the rarest and most coveted. In fact, it’s known colloquially as a “genius green card,” as generally the ones who get them are those who prove to have extraordinary skills in key areas such as the sciences, arts, business, education, or sports. Each year, they are awarded very sparingly to immigrants who can clearly demonstrate that they are the best of the best in their field.

The application to obtain the official endorsement of the “extraordinary abilities” of Milena Origgi, also known as Mylena Vocal Coach, got the green light in 2019 and it took two years, also due to the pandemic, to get the official issuing of the green card in 2021. One statistic turns out to be extremely interesting. In fact, according to the official USCIS report, there were 148,411 green card applications submitted in 2019, but only 614 of this type were approved!
