The gestural communication in the era of the Corona Virus
When I work on the voice of people trying to improve their socio-economic position, I often find myself pointing out things and teaching behaviors that should be far from us as evolved human beings.
If you look carefully at people who have “deserved” and not “got” some kind of personal affirmation in their professional or social life, it will be easy to notice differences with a normal person. Substantial differences are not related to a sophisticated way of using their voice, an elegant dress or a plethora of “followers”. In fact, all these elements can be added, constructed or even purchased. One should observe carefully to note that the differences are not added elements, but removed elements.
Many of my clients, professionals, entrepreneurs, CEOs, but also actors and singers, come to me after attending some kind of vocal training, from diction to acting, from presentation to public speaking, which is a pretext to teach them, or to add, something more.
My teachings are more subtle and effective, in fact I do not pretend to add anything, I only pretend to eliminate something that already exists and that ruins the beauty of human communication.
Well, some of these elements to remove, are almost always nervous tics, unconscious automatisms, expression of some kind of inner insecurity or some fear kept repressed and now silent.
Have you ever seen a great leader, so to speak, scratch her head? Or touch her nose or her face or put her hands to her mouth? These are unconscious behaviors that just as unconsciously express some communicative message.
And this message always reaches its destination, with results that are often cited as “sixth sense”, “bad impression” or something else.
These gestures, tics and unconscious movements pass from generation to generation and it takes a really good motivation to be able to defeat them.
What better opportunity to eradicate a good part of these movements if the one that is offering us, against our will, this pandemic of Corona Virus Covid-19? Now it is imperative not to touch your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth. Just bite your nails, put your fingers in your nose, use your hands for improper purposes, for example to bring food to your mouth, to cover a sneeze or yawn. There are many other, much more elegant ways to do this!
If you are young, you have the opportunity to avoid transmitting these attitudes to your future children, because it should not be forgotten that the common influence is also transmitted in this way and has accompanied us for thousands of years. If we have not managed to eradicate it, there must be a reason!
In addition to this, there is also breathing, an element at the basis of life itself and human vocality. Did you know that 90% of people who take the Inborn Voice route and learn to breathe correctly are even able to quadruple their breathing capacity? In fact, there are very few people who, when they reach adulthood, breathe correctly, i.e. make the most of their diaphragm. To their amazement, even those who come to me with vocal studies behind them and are sure to have problems with the vocal cords are clearly mistaken in their breathing.
A good breathing helps the whole human being, not only the voice, but with a good voice, the rest will come by itself.
