Fake it until you make it, does that really make sense?

The basic idea behind this strange affirmation is: don’t worry about trying anything, because if you work hard enough, sooner or later you’ll reach success.

And this is certainly a great way of thinking. The problem is that people generally tend to forget this second part of the catchphrase. Commitment. Everyone wants to skip straight to success, turning this great idea into some sort of Fake it until someone takes the bait!

In my work as a professional speaker vocal coach, I meet people from all kinds of backgrounds and as you can easily understand, I also meet people who have built their lives around this distorted understanding and ask me to help them “fake it” even better.

It’s like that scene in Indiana Jones where there’s this fearsome guy who shows off impressive skill by twirling a sword. Everyone, even Indy, is intimidated by it. But then Indy spots the “fakery” and realizes he has a real weapon at his disposal and he literally knocks it off in one shot, nailing the impostor.

Usually these people aren’t used to being caught, but their voice doesn’t lie. Voice never lies. What would you do if you were able to debunk their fakeness? Would you tell them the truth of what you see right in front of your eyes or would you continue to keep it a secret?

Well, if you know me just a little bit, you know that I never lie. I always tell everyone what I see, right to their faces. Of course I also tell them how I can help them stop pretending and be true to themselves again. Very few have accepted my challenge and now they are all renowned leaders. Because ultimately all they needed was the commitment.
