What is meant by the term diction? What does diction teach and why is it important to have good diction?

Before answering these questions, let’s start with an important premise: the key to any form of communication is the integral reception of the message you want to send.

Just as good calligraphy serves to make a handwritten message easier to read, good articulation and pronunciation serve to make an oral message fluid and more understandable.

It should be understood early on that diction in the strict sense is only an embellishment, an element that facilitates communication, and not a substantial part of it.

Mastering your voice and emotions is key to presenting successfully, laying out ideas and plans in a concise and successful way.

What does “Elevator Pitch” mean?

Elevator Pitch is an idiom that could be expressed as “quick and short chat” or even better “flash presentation“. The idea behind this communication technique is to take advantage of short moments of “dead” time, such as the time you spend in an elevator between floors, to introduce yourself concisely and immediately empathize with the other party.

You need to be prepared because when you have the opportunity to “accidentally” meet someone important, perhaps at a job interview or a business meeting, you have at most a few seconds to grab their attention and immediately define why we are important to them.

She is the first woman in Lombardy to have obtained the American “Greencard Genius”, the green card reserved for people with abilities defined as extraordinary. Genius, indeed. Born in 1972, she is a vocal coach. She has been living in Boston for a few years. She created the Inborn Voice method, considered the best in the field of vocal training and awareness by managers, as well as being considered a valuable soft skill by the academic world, including Bocconi and Cattolica Universities in Milan.

There are actually quite some people who think this way. Usually they are sleazy or manipulative people. So is this skill something that really makes sense to learn? I mean, is “persuasion” to be considered a useful skill or just a way to mislead people?

Well, it all depends on what meaning you give to the word “persuade” and the ethics of the coach you’re dealing with. Certainly it is possible to learn techniques capable of influencing the way people, and even the masses, think. These are not techniques that I consider ethical and they certainly won’t get you anywhere. Being able to “control” weaker minds is not something to be proud of. These are techniques that are based on hypnosis, NPL or variations of the two. These are techniques that will never get you ahead in your career, in business, or in raising healthy children, because the prerequisite is dealing with weak minds. This has nothing to do with my work as a Vocal Coach, at least not what I teach my trainee.

Today sees the release of an interview of mine that deals with a subject that is very close to my heart, that is what is defined as “personal brand” in today’s jargon. It is titled “Mylena vocal coach, personal brand to be expressed out loud“. In fact, my work has been intimately linked to the idea of “personal brand” for more than 20 years, and it is no coincidence that all my vocal coaching workshops are titled “Identity and Voice”. Even the most prestigious universities have recognized me as the pioneer and leading exponent, capable of connecting the world of voice to the world of business.
