When beauty finds its voice
Today, Rete55 aired an episode of ‘Allo Specchio’ with vocal coach Mylena Vocal Coach, Milena Origgi, where she talks about how much the voice affects the perception of beauty.
Here is the full video of the interview (25 minutes)
Here is the transcript of the interview:
Host: Here we are again this week from the studios of Allo Specchio, the programme that talks about beauty. Today we are broadening our horizons and our knowledge, because we are going to talk about something that cannot be seen, but which can make us more beautiful, more charming, more authentic. Something that represents us even when we are not physically present. So let’s go to our screen, as always, to discover the theme and title of today’s episode: “When beauty finds its voice”.
We have a special guest with us to talk about this: one of the leading international experts in her field, Executive Voice Coach to managers, professionals, artists and ordinary people.
It is with great pleasure that I introduce Milena Origgi.
Welcome, Milena.
Milena Origgi: Thank you, and welcome to you too.
Host: Milena teaches people to become aware of their vocal abilities and connect them to their emotions. This is precisely the job of an Executive Vocal Coach — which today we naturally link to the theme of beauty.
Let’s talk about the voice, a very powerful part of ourselves that we often ignore: vibrations that can make us more interesting and beautiful, if used in the right way.
Milena Origgi: Exactly. These vibrations are very powerful and add value to our presence, increasing our ability to interact and communicate.
Host: Many women want a seductive voice, perhaps because they feel seductive, or conversely because they do not perceive themselves as physically attractive and try to compensate with their voice. Is this possible, and how?
Milena Origgi: Absolutely yes. Our voice is an invisible and powerful bridge: it can convey a message immediately and create authentic charm.
Host: We often think that seduction comes from the eyes, the body, and gestures. But listening to Milena, I understand that the voice is the first invisible embrace we give to someone.
So I wonder: how can a woman attract a man with her voice?
Milena Origgi: We have to consider who we are talking to. If we are dealing with a decisive, strong man, we need a firm, harmonious voice, but not too sweet. If, on the other hand, the person is more rigid or closed in conversation, it is better to use a softer but still authentic voice. Any excess, on either side, breaks the balance.
Host: Let’s talk about work now. What is the right voice to make a good impression in an interview?
Milena Origgi:: It depends on the context. In an interview, you need a professional tone that is confident but not rigid, resolute but in line with your personality. Your voice must express desire, conviction, harmony and a steady rhythm.
Host: And for those who are shy?
Milena Origgi: Shyness restricts breathing, alters salivation and lowers the volume of the voice. In these cases, I work not only on technique, but also on inner frequencies: resonances, vibrations and emotions.
A path of awareness is needed rather than mere vocal technique, because the voice always reflects the emotions we feel.
Host: Often, the most shy people change their voice after just a few sessions, because they resolve the emotional block that was affecting their sound.
Let’s talk about the voice of power. How would you define it?
Milena Origgi: Vocal power is perceived when you don’t need to raise your voice to assert yourself. I think of Christine Lagarde, President of the ECB: her voice conveys strength with calm and balance. Or Sylvester Stallone, who embodies a different kind of power — masculine, direct, determined.
Host: And a charming male voice, how do you recognise it?
Milena Origgi: It must have nuances, like a well-made-up face. It is a balance between low and high, between firmness and softness.
A voice that is too high-pitched or too low creates dissonance. Vocal harmony — as in visual beauty — is made up of well-balanced contrasts.
Host: How do women perceive the male voice?
Milena Origgi: It depends. Some are fascinated by a deep, confident voice; others prefer softer, more reserved tones. There is no single ideal, but authenticity remains the most attractive feature.
Host: Is there a difference between a voice that is effective in romantic situations and one that is effective at work?
Milena Origgi: Yes, absolutely. At work, you need a clear, firm voice that is consistent with the context. In relationships, on the other hand, we can afford to be more charming and intimate with our voices.
Host: Milena, how do you manage your voice in different contexts in your life?
Milena Origgi: I believe the most important thing is to fall in love with your own voice. If we don’t like it, we have to work on it until we love it, because only then does it become our true instrument of beauty and communication.
Host: You have often given lectures and conferences. How do you keep the audience’s attention?
Milena Origgi: Attention does not depend on duration, but on curiosity. You have to be artistic, curious, change rhythm and tone with meaning, not out of habit. Pauses should follow emotion, not rules.
Host: Many people use forced variations in tone to attract listeners. Do they still work?
Milena Origgi: No. I just talked about this in a TEDx talk: standardised vocal patterns are outdated. Highs and lows that are disconnected from our identity create confusion. The voice must be authentic, not theatrical.
Host: So why do people who are already famous or successful turn to a vocal coach?
Milena Origgi:: Because those who are already good still want to improve. They want to perfect even the 3% that is missing in order to express themselves fully. It is this continuous search that makes the difference between those who stand still and those who grow.
Host: To conclude, Milena: voice and beauty, what is the connection?
Milena Origgi: The voice is the sound engine of beauty. True harmony arises when the inner voice is in balance with the outer voice.
When we devote ourselves only to external perfection, without cultivating sound harmony, we remain divided in two.
I always think of Cinderella in front of the mirror: the voice can shape, transform and make us feel more beautiful, because it brings us back to loving ourselves.
Host: Wonderful. Thank you, Milena, for being with us.
It has been a beautiful and inspiring encounter.
Milena Origgi:: Thank you for this opportunity.
Host: And so we have understood that beauty does not only live on the skin, but also in the vibration we give to the world.
Thank you to everyone at home for following us. See you next week with Allo Specchio.
