To Communicate with Emotions: From the Lion’s Roar to the Power of the Voice
Imagine being a child again. A curious person, eager to explore and able to look at the world with wonder and listen to the beating of your own heart. You are on a trip to the zoo and you are alone. There are no adults with you, ready to tell you what to look at, what deserves attention, or the name of everything.
You walk among the animals and every step is a discovery. Your eyes encounter creatures you have never seen before, your ears hear sounds you have never heard before in your daily life. Even the smells are new, smells that envelop you and tell you a story.
Suddenly, a majestic bird appears in front of you. Its feathers are like a rainbow: the red is so intense that it almost seems to emanate heat, the blue is so deep that it resembles the night sky, and the yellow dazzles almost like the midday sun. The animal moves elegantly, tilting its head as if studying you, just as you are studying it. From time to time, it utters a sharp, metallic cry, giving you an unexpected sensation that you cannot describe but will never forget.
A few steps further on, there is an enormous feline. An imposing creature, with a calm, almost regal gait. Its eyes pierce you. Its roar is more than a sound: it is a vibration that pierces your flesh and bones. That roar reaches your stomach and stops you breathing, an ancient primordial memory that makes you fear for your life.
In the evening, when you return home and recount your adventure, something happens that will ruin it forever. Someone teaches you that the first animal is called a “macaw,” while the second is a “lion.” From that moment on, every time you recount this adventure, if you still think it’s worth doing, instead of describing your emotions, you will simply use words that, for you, elegantly sum up the experience. Suddenly, all the richness of what you saw, heard, smelled, and felt will be reduced to a simple label. And you will do this more and more often, always taking things for granted, even with those who have never had the chance to see those animals in real life. You will simply call them “macaw” or “lion,” perhaps showing a photograph or video of them. The word has replaced the experience.
Here’s the thing: words, however useful, have become cages in modern society. They tend to limit our expressiveness, especially when we assume that our listeners share our same baggage of emotions and experiences. This is one of the reasons why I love studying Japanese: an ideogram does not limit you to a single meaning, but leaves room for interpretation, a poetic freedom capable of awakening the imagination.
In my work as a vocal coach, I often meet people who spend hours preparing speeches, presentations, and interviews. They polish and weigh every word, as if the secret to success came from these choices. But that’s not where it lies. Because “lion” is just a word. To transform it into something powerful, you must always accompany it with the emotional roar that you carry within you and that has changed your life. Emotions are the key, always. Without them, words are empty shells. Only thanks to emotions, your own, real ones, can even a technical speech or a business pitch become memorable. Whether you are presenting a startup, discussing a thesis, or sharing an idea, what really convinces and remains in the memory of your listeners is the emotional energy you have imprinted in your voice.
That’s why the Inborn Voice Method is still chosen by those who want to make a difference. Because it doesn’t just teach you “what to say,” it guides you to rediscover your authentic voice, the one capable of bringing the roar of a lion and the wonder of a child to every word you utter.
