Sucked Lollipop: how to sell well-packaged illusions
Today it seems that anyone who appears on the small screen, the one on a cell phone, and has a slight nerve feels ready to teach others about any subject. From marketing to stock market investments, from foreign languages to computer science. The reality is that often what is sold for an exclusive secret is nothing more than a well-packaged obviousness, a marketing gimmick with no foundation. It is like the famous saying from Italy of the Sucked Lollipop: a candy that has already been “sucked” by someone else that is put back up for sale, perfectly wrapped. The flavor is gone, the value as well, but it is repackaged as if it were the discovery of the century.
In my work as a coach, it has happened to me far too many times that I have had to put people who are confused, disappointed or even hurt by this kind of pseudo-training back on track. They have taken video courses, webinars, viral videos, hoping to improve themselves, to find that extra edge in communication or in their own presence. But instead of solid tools, they received empty formulas, illusory shortcuts, directions based on imitation of successful people and scripts to follow. They learned how to act, not how to communicate. They “used” the voice, without ever really discovering it.
What makes the Inborn Voice method unique is precisely the opposite of this. Here you do not learn a technique to copy, nor do you adapt to an external standard. You take a deep and personal journey to find your true voice, the authentic one, not the one built to please others or to get a like. That’s why I never tire of saying that those who are only looking for quick tricks or three-move results are likely to get caught up in marketing traps that do nothing more than address illusory needs that have little to do with words like Success or Self-Esteem.
Social media, in this respect, is the perfect stage for illusions. You see improvised experts repeating catchphrases (not for nothing my site is the most copied in the world on communication skills) adopting studied postures and programmed smiles. It all seems to work, until you actually try to apply it in your real life. And that’s when the candy turns out to be tasteless: when you realize that what is learned doesn’t hold up in an interview, that that “foolproof technique” doesn’t save a relationship, that that “magnetic presence” vanishes as soon as you leave the recording and enter the one-on-one.
If you have found yourself in this situation, if you too have felt that empty feeling after following yet another piece of advice sold as gold, know that you can contact Inborn Voice with confidence.
